Tan Sock Fong is attracted to glass because of its brilliance in spite of its
transparency, its liquid delicacy in spite of its actual hardness and its
malleability in its molten state. She relies mainly on the use of a kiln for
fusing, slumping or casting the glass, creating works which she finds a
challenge because of the unpredictability of the end result, evident only when
the kiln is opened. Because light - its source, intensity and angle of
refraction - plays such a major role in determining the appearance of her works,
it is an element she considers of foremost importance when it comes to
conceiving and formulating them.
