The Artists Village invites you to a presentation by

Richard Martel

at The Substation's Classroom 1.

In the artist's own words, the presentation will be about "the intimate, the private and the public which are the three faces of this triad that makes gestures oscillate in diverse contexts and situations" Richard Martel will present the evolution of performance art, art action and discuss on the distinction between happenings, body art, fluxus, zaj, vienese actionism etc. 

Richard Martel has participated frequently in the exchange network between Mexico, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Poland, etc., he has made 160 performances in more than 30 different countries. He is a founding member of the magazine Inter, and had participated in setting up Le Lieu [Centre en art actuel] in 1982 which is a parallel and interactive counterpart of "Inter" magazine, Le Lieu is a permanent laboratory for developing experimental art practice with a critical stance. With a Québec and international focus, Le Lieu organises large-scale events including "Festival d'In(ter)vention".
